Heather and Keith are a Key West local couple whom I have the pleasure of photographing their wedding next February. They contacted me in the spring and decided upon one of the new wedding packages that I am now offering. I think its important to offer a complimentary engagement session in my wedding packages. It helps me get to know the couple, see how they photograph, and then create a plan for how we want to approach their wedding day. The couple wanted to incorporate a few things that meant a lot to them into their shots, and I had a few ideas myself. Key West has a lot of hidden or less traveled areas. It was nice that they wanted to venture around, and just let loose.
Heather came across a few images that she sent to me and wanted to recreate them. Keith is a local firefighter, and they both really like the look and feel of the Key West Firehouse Museum. It has great textures and really was a good way to warm up to the camera. Being the first time they had been in front of the camera with me I went over a few things that they would hear me ask them to do, which I could tell set them a bit at ease.
Keith is a runner, and ran track in high school. He still helps out with the Key West High School runners, so it was only fitting to add this to the shoot. We showed up at the high school and the contrast of track with the sun was perfect. All of a sudden we heard fast footsteps, and then boom! We had runners sprinting down the track right past the couple. Instant awesome image! Keith and Heather loved it!
We then finished off the afternoon at Fort Zach and hit some of the favorite spots with and awesome sunset. This is why I like to offer the wedding packages that I do. By taking a couple hours time to get to know the couple, you get them comfortable with you. It breaks down barriers, so when the day comes, its more relaxed and natural. Looking forward to February with this couple in Marathon, Florida.
